The sole purpose of the Mary Weems Barton/Quincy Library Foundation is to enhance the collections and programs of the Library by supplying funds for materials, equipment, and capital improvements.
Since its establishment, the Quincy Public Library has served the diverse information and educational needs of Quincy and the surrounding townships. Introducing children, teens and adults to the joys of reading, learning and discovery, the Library offers its patrons the priceless gift of knowledge and has evolved into an indispensable meeting place for the entire community. Embracing the latest technologies, the Library strives to provide vital and meaningful services to meeting changing community needs. It also fulfills another critical role in the community—bringing people together through cooperative public and private relationships. Today’s sagging economy and rising unemployment have only enhanced the Library’s value to the Quincy community. Circulation of Library materials is at an all time high. The cycle has been demonstrated over and over again through the 20th century: When the economy goes down, Library usage goes up. The irony is, however, that due to municipal budget cuts, Library funding has decreased dramatically just at a time when the community needs library services more than ever. Without the help of private donations, the Quincy Public Library is vulnerable to losing much of the services, materials and programs that have become so vital to this community. |
